welcome to our AQUA world travel GUIDE. This short article includes info about this Clark style park including directions, entrance ticket prices, operating hours, finest rides, as well as other tips! God fornøjelse!

Summer break was something I looked ahead to when I was a kid. It’s a time when my cousins as well as I would excitedly capture ourselves inside a hired jeepney to travel to close-by prominent beach destinations or resort villages. however while we were still waiting, we would set up our own makeshift “water park” with only laundry laundry basins for the pools as well as washboards for the slides. Still, we had a grand time.

At present, the country is house to a number of water parks, which function distinct as well as amazing attractions. I’ve been to one in the south when I was a kid, as well as I immensely delighted in my time there.

The North Philippines visitors Bureau (NPVB) invited us to yet one more Lakbay Norte trip as well as one of the highlights of that trip is our go to to Aqua world at Clark Freeport zone in Pampanga. The vibrant slides as well as the wave pools will make you feel like youngsters again, as I did. I was only planning to take pictures of the others, however the kid in me might not withstand the #WatermazingExperience! 😛

Men Bus + Train Journey koster dig i alt næsten TWD 500.

Over 10 direkte busser lægger Alishan-Chiayi-ruten pr. Dag. Men kun 3 Alishan-Fenqihu-busser er tilgængelige pr. Dag og kun op til 3 Fenqihu-Chiayi-tog (kun et på hverdage).

Det er mere ideelt til kortvarige besøgende. Direkte busser giver dig mulighed for at tilbringe mere tid i Alishan.

Her er tidsplanen:

25 things TO SEE and do in BUDAPEST

25 things TO SEE and do in BUDAPEST

Last Updated: 10/30/21 | October 30th, 2021

When I first went to Budapest, the gritty, rundown streets charmed me. Budapest felt edgy. This was a city of underground bars in abandoned buildings, hearty food, and major people.

Originally founded by the Celts around 1 CE, the region was later annexed by the Romans, who founded the city of Aquincum here (which present-day Budapest now covers). The Magyars eventually invaded the region after being pushed out of Bulgaria, founding the Kingdom of Hungary around the year 1,000. In 1361, the king built Buda castle here, solidifying present-day Budapest as the capital and cultural hub of the kingdom.

In 1873, the towns of Buda and Pest were merged with the third area of the city, Óbuda (Old Buda), to form modern-day Budapest.

Over the years, I’ve seen the city change as tourists discovered this hidden gem and made it not so hidden anymore. And, while no longer as edgy as it once was, Budapest is still one of the best cities in Europe. It provides some of the best nightlife on the continent, tons of beautiful districts, tons of spas and hot springs, spectacular historic buildings and museums, and lots of green space.

To help you make the most out of your next trip, here are my top 25 things to see and do in Budapest.

1. Take a totally free walking Tour

Whenever I arrive in a new destination, I always take a totally free walking tour. It’s a budget-friendly way to see the main sights, learn about the destination, meet new people and ask any questions you have to a local expert. They’re a quick and easy way to get an summary of a city, which helps you plan the rest of your trip. Budapest has a number of good totally free trips available. trip to Budapest and Generation trips both offer outstanding tours. just be sure to suggestion your guide!

2. soak at the Baths

Budapest is known for its thermal medspa baths (it’s one of the best things about this city). There are much more than 100 mineral hot springs here, numerous dating back to the Roman Empire.

The many popular is the Széchenyi Baths in City Park. With 18 pools, it’s the largest and many well-known in Europe. The historic buildings that house the medspa were built in 1913, and it’s a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. Don’t forget your bathing suit and flip-flops (you can rent towels and lockers).

Állatkerti krt. 9-11, +36-20 435 0051, szechenyifurdo.hu. open daily from 6am-10pm. Admission starts at 5,300 HUF on weekdays and 6,200 HUF on weekends and holidays.

3. party at the destroy Bars

The nightlife in Budapest is one of the best in Europe — and destroy bars are a big reason why. located in the old Jewish Quarter (the district VII neighborhood), much of the neighborhood was left to decay after world war II. during the 90s, bars began to appear in the abandoned buildings in the area. Now, this underground scene is well on the map, but that doesn’t make these eclectic, arty, and funky spaces any less fun. Szimpla Kert and instant are my favorites.

For a much more comprehensive list, check out my post on the best destroy bars in Budapest!

4. See Castle Hill

This historic area is home to baroque houses and Habsburg monuments. cobblestone streets and narrow alleys that hark back to the city’s medieval roots parallel panoramic views of Pest and the Danube. This section of the city is actually a UNESCO world Heritage Site, with the Old town in the north and the massive palace to the south, which dates to the 13th century. You can get up the hill by bus or take the funicular but you often have to wait. The hill isn’t really that steep so I choose to walk.

5. trip Buda Castle

Also in the Castle hill area is Buda Castle (it’s much more of a palace complex than anything else). The original complex was constructed in the 13th century, however, the huge Baroque palace that exists today was actually built between 1749-1769. originally intended for the nobility, the palace was looted by the Nazis (and then the Soviets) during world war II.

Fun fact: below the castle, Vlad the Impaler (colloquially known as count Dracula) was imprisoned for 14 years. In the dungeon area, there is also a labyrinth which is very cool. There are some museums here as well (see below).

Szent György tér 2, +36 1 458 3000, budacastlebudapest.com. The courtyards are open 24/7 while the castle has hours that align with the museum and gallery (see below).

6. explore the medical facility in the Rock

Over the years, this museum has served as a hospital, bomb shelter, prison, and nuclear bunker. here you can learn about the impacts that world war II, the 1956 revolution, and the cold war had on the city and its people. opened in 2008, it’s one of the most popular attractions in town. Admission includes a one-hour guided trip of the museums, which has all sorts of wax figures, tools, equipment, and furnishings.

Lovas ut 4/c , +36 70 701 0101, sziklakorhaz.eu/en. open daily 10am-7pm. Admission is 5,080 HUF.

7. visit the Hungarian national Gallery

Opened in 1957, this museum focuses on Hungarian artists and history (of which I knew very little before my first visit). The gallery is located in Buda Castle, home to paintings and sculptures from the renaissance and middle ages, including wooden altarpieces from the 1400s. You can also trip the building’s massive dome. The gallery hosts rotating short-term exhibits too so check the site to find out what’s on during your visit.

1014 Budapest, +36 20 439 7325, mng.hu. open Tuesday-Sunday 10am-6pm (last tickets sold at 5pm). short-term exhibitions are only open Tuesday-Thursday. Admission is 1,800 HUF and audio guides are available for 800 HUF. There is an additional charge for taking pictures.

8. wander the Budapest history Museum

This museum covers four floors of Buda Castle and has the most outstanding views across Budapest. It offers a extensive summary of the city’s entire history. It’s a should for anybody wanting to get a much more comprehensive look at the city’s 2,000-year past. My favorite exhibit was the “1,000 Years of Budapest” display. Be sure to get the audio guide as it offers a lot of good supplemental information. It’s worth the cost.

2 Szent Gyorgy Square, +36 1 487 8800 , budacastlebudapest.com/budapest-history-museum. open Tuesday-Sunday 10am-6pm (4pm in the winter). Admission is 2,400 HUF (free if you have the Budapest Card and on national holidays).

9. See the Cave Church

In the 1920s, Catholic monks built this church in a large cave system that had been previously used by a hermit monk. known as Saint Ivan’s Cave, the cave was used as a medical facility during world war II. When the communists concerned power after the war, they covered the entrance in concrete and performed the head monk. In 1989, as the Iron curtain fell, the church was reopened and is now a popular place for tourists as well as a place of worship for locals. get the audio guide to make the most out of your visit. There is a lot of history here.

Sziklatemlom út Gellért Hill, sziklatemplom.hu/web/fooldal.html. open Monday-Saturday 9:30am-7:30pm. Admission is 600 HUF.

10. visit Matthias Church

This neo-Gothic Roman Catholic church is one of the most distinct churches in Europe. I’ve literally seen hundreds of churches and cathedrals across the continent and this is one of the most distinctive. The original church in this spot was built in the 11th century, though nothing remains of it (the current building was constructed in the 14th century and was heavily renovated in the 19th century).

During the Turkish invasion of the 16th century, it was converted to a mosque, which is why it has dynamic colors and designs that aren’t as common in European churches (the church has a colorful roofing system that practically makes it look like it was built from Lego). once inside, you’ll see huge vaulted ceilings and ornate décor.

Szentháromság tér 2, +36 1 355 5657, matyas-templom.hu. open 9am-5pm on weekdays, 9am-1pm on Saturdays, and 1pm-5pm on Sundays. Admission to the church is 2,000 HUF (2,200 HUF for the tower) .

11. visit Fisherman’s Bastion

Built between 1895-1902, this terrace is comprised of seven towers that look out over the river. Each one is implied to represent one of the seven Hungarian tribes that founded the city. The terrace was developed by the same architect who created the Matthias Church and offers spectacular panoramic views across the Danube River. competing legends say that the name comes from either the fact that the terrace overlooks the old fishermen’s guild or that the fishermen’s guild was responsible for protecting that area of the wall. no one is quite certain which is right.

Szentháromság tér, +36 1 458 3030, fishermansbastion.com. open daily 9am-11pm. Admission is free, with an additional charge of 1,000 HUF to visit the upper turrets.

12. admire the Hungarian presidential Palace

The Hungarian presidential palace has been the workplace of the president because 2003. known as Sándor-palota (Alexander Palace), it’s not nearly as outstanding as the surrounding buildings, but if you time your visit best you can see the changing of the guard ceremony at the top of each hour from 9am-5pm (excluding Sundays). in some cases the palace is open for trips (but this rarely happens so don’t get your hopes up).

Szent György tér 1-2, +36 1 224 5000. Admission to the changing of the guard is free.

13. See Buda Tower

This reconstructed “tower” is all that remains of the Church of Mary Magdalene, which was originally built in the 13th century but was destroyed during world war II. When the Turks occupied the city between 1541-1699, the church was converted into a mosque. It reopened in 2017 and you can now climb the 172 steps that result in the top. That said, the views from Castle hill are just as good — and totally free — so I’d skip climbing the steps and just admire this historic tower from the outside.

Kapisztrán tér 6, budatower.hu/en. open daily 10am-6pm (but only on the weekends in January and February). Admission is 1,500 HUF.

14. walk across the Chain Bridge

The Széchenyi Chain Bridge connects Buda with Pest and is a wrought-iron and stone suspension bridge. The bridge originally opened in 1849 but was damaged during world war II and had to be rebuilt. spend some time strolling across the bridge and taking in the view. Don’t miss Gresham Palace, located on the Pest side. It’s an Art Nouveau building that is now a luxurious four seasons hotel.

15. visit Parliament

Built on the Danube in 1902, this is the largest building in the country and home to the national assembly. This massive structure — which covers over 18,000 square meters — took practically 20 years to build after the three cities that make up modern Budapest (Buda, Pest, and Óbuda) united in 1873. The literal translation implies “House of the Nation” or “House of the Country.” You can take guided trips of the building where you can learn about the history of the city and how the government of the country works. (If you plan to visit, purchase your tickets in advancement as the lines can get really long.)

Kossuth Lajos tér 1-3, +36 1 441 4415, parlament.hu. open daily 8am-4pm. Admission is 6,700 HUF for non-EU adults, 3,500 HUF for EU adults.

16. stroll Along the Danube

After going to Parliament, take a walk along the river. Head south to check out the promenade and its numerous green spaces and sculptures, including the sobering “Shoes on the Danube Bank,” a memorial honoring the Jews who were shot here during world war II. If you have a book or just want to take in the view, this is a reflective place to stop and relax.

17. eat at the great Market Hall

This is the oldest and largest indoor market in the country. built in 1897, there are mostly produce, meats, baked goods, and candy on the ground floor while the upper floor is home to restaurants and souvenir shops. It has a lot of conventional places to eat, so be sure to walk around and explore first. Yes, it’s touristy (it’s the central market, after all), but I still found the food quite good (and affordable). even if you don’t plan on purchasing anything, it’s still worth a quick visit to walk around.

Vámház körút 1–3, budapestmarkethall.com/great-market-hall-budapest. open Monday 6am-5pm, Tuesday-Friday 6am-6pm, and Saturday 6am-3pm. closed on Sundays. Admission is free.

18. admire St. Stephen’s Basilica

This is the largest church in Hungary. named after Hungary’s first king, the church is comprised of ornate architecture, beautiful artwork, and is crowned by a massive dome. It was completed in 1905 after taking 50 years to build. Be sure to check out all the little chapels as well as the reliquary that is (allegedly) home to St. Stephen’s mummified best hand. If you’re there on a Monday, they have organ recitals.

Szent István tér 1, +36 1 311 0839, bazilika.biz. open daily from 9am-7pm (opens at 7:45am on Sundays). entry to the basilica is by donation, though it’s 2,000 HUF per person for the tower/observation deck.

19. See Dohány street Synagogue

Also known as the great Synagogue, this is the second-largest synagogue in the world (it seats 3,000 people). built in 1854, the synagogue provides guided trips that shed lig

Spin Designer Hostel El Nido: Vores fineste hosteloplevelse i Palawan

Biri Island rock Formations: northern Samar, Philippines

The hum of the wind was beginning to weave a happy melody in my head as it drowned the words that I was shouting to my good friend Ces at the base of the cliff. I was at the summit of the Bel-at rock formation in the middle of the rocky shores of Barangay development in Biri, northern Samar.

“THIS IS the most lovely location THAT I have BEEN TO!” I screamed my lungs out, hoping that she would hear me even when I was at the greatest point of a gigantic rock as well as she at the extremely bottom of it.

“SAMME HER!” she shouted back.

That was no exaggeration. Biri Island is the most stunning location that I have been to so far. I stood there as well as tried to take in all the appeal as well as question that surrounded me however even my elephantine head might not consist of it all.

Across the Mangrove forest of Progress

“Progress,” replied Kuya Elvis, the motorist of the habal-habal we were riding. That’s the name of the barangay we were about to see — Barangay Progress. as well as the name appeared apt when Kuya Elvis dropped us off at the begin of the bridge running over a picturesque mangrove forest.

How I feel about this bridge, I’m not sure. It was not truly an eye sore. If anything, it appeared like it complimented the surrounding landscape with its wooden planks as well as railings. however a part of me desires that visitors would be provided a possibility to a have a a lot more “authentic” experience squirming with the mangroves or complying with a hike path even if it indicated wading with shallow water. however then again, I have no concept just exactly how deep the water right here gets. It was low-tide when we visited.

The pathway to the rock Formations in Progress, Biri Island
Before we might even set foot on the very first board of the walkway, we identified some building workers coming towards our direction. What they were building in the middle of the mangroves, we did not bother to believe about at the time.

Three meters into the walkway, we were stunned by the scenery. Mangroves increased from the shallow water that cover the area. In between some trees, little boats were docked on some boulders. We just kept snapping away, taking pictures of whatever lovely that we would set eyes on and, mind you, there were many of them.

Boats docked at the rocks throughout the mangrove forest
We continued complying with the pathway up until we discovered just what it was that the workers were building — THE pathway itself! We discovered ourselves in the middle of an unfinished bridge. What lay ahead were the two concrete spines of the bridge’s deck, nearly a meter apart. however even the concrete beams left us hanging. building stopped in the middle of the mangrove forest, as well as we were required to figure out exactly how to get off the bridge on our own. We struggled climbing down the scaffold. The end of the bridge was marked by a towering bamboo pole with a white sheet waving on top. This was what we utilized to discover our method to the bridge on our method back as well as out of the forest.

Uh-oh… My good friend Ces vs The Bridge
Flag marks the spot! The flag that marks the end of the walkway.
We waded with ankle-deep puddles of water as well as discovered two trails. The trees were rather tall as well as we might not truly see what was in store for us at the end of both however we turned left. It turned out that the left path leads to the rocky ordinary between Puhunan as well as Bel-at rock formations while the right, to Bel-at natural pool. Our very first look of heaven occurred as soon as we reached a group of large rocks set up in a circle as if they were having a conference. From there, we had a amazing view of the rock formations along the shore of Biri.

But as one saying goes, we ain’t seen nothing yet.

Our very first look of paradise. The layered edges of Bel-at!
Fantastic Four: Macadlaw, Puhunan, Bel-at as well as Caranas rock Formations

There are six major rock formations on the northern side of Biri Island. (I’m quite sure there are other islets as well as rocks in some nooks as well as ideas of the island however there are six gigantic rocks formations on this end alone.) The six are called (in order, from West to East): Magasang, Magsapad, Macadlaw, Puhunan, Bel-at, as well as Caranas. The development trail, which we took at this time, provides gain access to to the last four, which appeared like it was purposely set up on the shore to knock off the fierce waves lapping theedge of the island.

Puhunan. Of the four, the very first to catch our easy-to-get interest was Puhunan. From afar, Puhunan rock formation appears like a half-dipped submarine. It is normally flat with the far end abruptly tilting. Its top is covered with eco-friendly as well as brown vegetation while its cliffs heavily hewn by nature.

Macadlaw rock Formation
Macadlaw. To the left is Macadlaw, which resembles two massive waves that solidified at once. The crag carefully slopes as it techniques the sea. Its shape unexpectedly plunges as it hits the shoreline, developing an nearly vertical drop-off. two coconut trees wave on top of it, best subject of folklores as well as legends.

Bel-at. When seen from its left side, Bel-at rock formation appeared like an colossal desert rock with its brown (almost orange) surface. even its rich naturally layered brinks are light brown bordering yellow with darker lines as well as accents. The moment you climb it, however, it exposes a lot more colors. It is specked with a few trees as well as rough rocks adding shades of gray as well as a hint of green. It is the crag that I selected to traverse since there was a huge boulder on its left side that was extremely simple to climb. From right here I had a spectacular view of the rocky shore ahead, the shallow swamps behind, as well as the other beaches far, far away.

View of Caranas crag with the Bel-at pool in the lower ideal corner
Caranas. The rightmost crag is called Caranas. like Macadlaw, it appears like a couple of waves that froze in action. It is densely blanketed, nearly completely covered, with bright eco-friendly lawn as well as bush with a coconut tree solely battling the powerful wind. huge boulders are stacked at its base, appearing like they likewise froze while rolling down. (OK, I’m getting consumed with the time-freezing thing.)

While the primary attractions in this location are the rock formations, the areas between them are not to be ignored. Sandy beaches are nowhere to be found, however taking their location are rough, rocky grounds harboring little, shallow puddles of seawater. Swimming is nearly impossible right here since the waves are just so freakin’ fierce they can kill by either drowning you or slamming your body onto a rock or both. Besides, there’s a body of water in the area that is much a lot more appropriate for stress-free dipping.

The Bel-at Pool

Between Caranas as well as Bel-at lies a natural pool. We only discovered about this in the last 20 minutes of our stay in the area. (Had we understood earlier, we would have spent a lot more time here.) While I was standing at the pinnacle of Bel-at crag, I heard little voices as well as it got me freaking out for a couple of minutes. We had not seen any individual in the area, making us believe that we were the only people there, yet I kept on hearing voices — laughs, giggles, shouts, even conversations. I was about to concern about my mental health and wellness when I walked to the other side of the cliff as well as discovered that there was one more group of tourists enjoying the chilly water of a natural pool in between gigantic rocks. My deal with lightened up in an instant! I might take a dip after all!

I hurried (carefully) to the base of the rock as well as galloped to the other side. households from other parts of Samar were there having a blast. Ces as well as I left our things in one corner (but within our eyes’ reach) as well as went for a swim. While it was just a pool as well as not the ocean, some parts of it are quite deep. I really had to stay on one side since I was as well poultry to swim across the pool. envision swimming in a turquoise pool while having priceless vistas of the breathtaking landscape. It was perfect.

Top view of Bel-at Pool
Magasang as well as Magsapad

Lying on the other end of the beach are Magasang as well as Magsapad. These twin rock formations are only a few meters apart, separated by a natural pool of saltwater that catches the sloshes of the gigantic waves that constantly slap its cliffs. The waves crashing creates remarkable splashes, reaching even a few meters in the air. Sometimes, the spill engulfs much of the rocky area between the two rocks. If you’re lucky (or unlucky), you’d get washed away by the waves a number of meters into the pool. sand historie.

I understand what you’re thinking: Wow, best for surfing!!! That’s absolutely not suggested (or even possible). The waves may be as well big, however in this part of the site there are no sandy beaches — only gigantic rocks. You may take pleasure in riding the waves, however they will smash you so difficult onto those rocks you may not get to online to tell the story. If you want to swim, stay in the pool as well as pretend you’re Ariel or Dyesebel or something.

Magasang as well as Magsapad rock Formations, Biri Island
Before the wave. See that small dot in the pool? That’s a person snorkeling. That’s exactly how large these rock formations are.
After the wave. The waves engulfing the area between the two rock formations. That’s Magsapad in the background.
A better look at the natural pool between Magasang as well as Magsapad
MONSTER WAVES!
Magasang appears like a mushroom while Magsapad a shark fin. Both are topped with bright grass. Its cliffs as well as brinks look like they were purposely hewn by a divine master craftsman. One side of Magasang slopes so carefully as well as is blanketed by a textured layer that it serves as a natural staircase to the summit of the cliff. It is so simple to climb since your sandals will grip on the rough rock so effortlessly. Nevertheless, please observe caution whenever you’re traversing anything, particularly a cliff like this. When I reached the top, I had a amazing view of neighbor Magsapad as well as the sea birds that seemed to be having a feast on the other side of the cliff. I stayed there for over 10 minutes to enjoy the waves devour the area between the two crags as well as the gigantic rocks that specked the site.

Southern edge of Magasang rock Formation
So smooth! South cliff of Magasang
Tsk tsk. Some douchebag left this awful graffiti on the cliff of Magasang. Please Leave nothing however Footprints!!!!
Another look at Magsapad rock formation as well as its rocky world.
Zoom ind!
To our ideal was the sun starting to quote goodbye. Kuya Elvis was already at the beach, waiting on us, however we requested to stay a bit bit longer to enjoy the sunset as well as see Magasang as well as Magsapad slowly vanish in the dark. It was a agonizing schlep leaving that place. We dragged our feet, stopping a number of times just to get a lot more heartbreaking “last looks” of that rocky paradise.

I New York, Times Square. I Sydney, operahuset. I Peru, Machu Picchu. I Bangkok, Grand Palace.

Dotonbori: Sensorisk overbelastning i Osaka, Japan

Dotonbori: Sensorisk overbelastning i Osaka, Japan

Min Kyushu Shoyu Ramen, smager som Lucky Me Pancit Canton, undtagen bedre.

Kilim Geoforest Park: The Soaring Spirits in Langkawi, Malaysia

I had never seen that many eagles swarming and flying around in just one place.

The poor Traveler was at Kilim Karst Geoforest Park in Langkawi in the state of Kedah in the western coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Langkawi is an archipelago of 99 islands in Andaman Sea. Langkawi means reddish-brown eagle in the local language, taking the name from the glorious birds of prey that abound in the island.

Brown Eagle in Action
The northeastern tip of the main island of Langkawi is covered in thick mangrove forests, specked with spectacularly formed karst cliffs rising from its brackish water. three rivers flow and meander across this region — Kisap, Air Hangat, and Kilim. Together, they form a gorgeous landscape that has nurtured and nourished a healthy ecosystem and a wide and diverse array of life forms. Kilim River, locally known as Sungai Kilim, runs across Kilim Nature Park, sprawling over an area of about 100 square kilometers of mangrove forests, blue lagoons, and white beaches.

Prepping Up for the Speedboat Ride

There was a counter at the boat jetty by the river where you could settle payment for the tour. There are actually so many options to choose from depending on how long you want the tour to be and how many places you want to stop at. A one-hour tour costs RM 200 per boat and the two-hour RM350. Again, the rate is per boat so you can divide it by the number of people in the group. If you’re traveling solo, you might want to consider asking other groups to let you join them so you could reduce the cost.

At the Kilim River Jetty
We initially wanted to take those slower tours with an expert tour guide explaining in great detail the significance and highlights in each stop, but those tours usually take 4 hours and they have set schedules, one in the early morning and one at 2pm. We were too late for the first and too early for the second, and we could not afford the rate. We settled for the usual speedboat tours instead.

After settling the fees, we were led to the jetty and waited for our boatman. I am kicking myself in the butt right now because I can’t remember the name of our boatman. He was really, really funny and so kind to us. (He even allowed and taught us to drive the speedboat under close supervision, of course.) What I also liked about our boatman was that he did not like and did not encourage feeding the brown eagles. Aaargh, I need to remember his name!

The Bat Cave (Gua Kelawar)

The closest attraction to the Kilim jetty is the Bat Cave (also known as Gua Kelawar), which actually comprises two caves. It’s not a hard trek at all because the trail that leads visitors through the two caves are boarded. The first cave houses several towering rock formations under a 10-meter high ceiling. It has also become home to many species of bats including the Southeast Asian bent-winged bat, the great round leaf bat, and the intermediate round leaf bat. The second cave is topped with a low ceiling that one needs to bend down to make it through. The ceiling and the walls of this cave are covered in ancient seashells.

Inside the first cave
Curious bystanders.
We stayed for only less than 20 minutes at the bat cave and boarded the speedboat right after. We then had a stop at a small tree where a snake is curled peacefully around and a rock where dozens of monkeys stayed, perhaps waiting for tourists to throw food at them. I just hope all the feeding stops at this place. 🙁

The Yacht Park

“Take off your hat,” said our boatman. “You’re gonna lose it.”

I followed without question. In an instant, our speedboat zoomed along the river, and the wind almost smothered my face. had I not removed my hat, it would have been stolen by the wind. We slowed down as soon as we spotted the first of the countless yachts and sailboats anchored on one side of the river. These picturesque boats make good subject with the imposing cliffs as backdrop.

A private yacht anchored at Kilim River
“They’re private yachts,” our boatman explained.

“Who owns them?” Jeg spurgte.

“Travelers,” he answered.

“They stay in Langkawi?”

“Ingen. maybe just once or twice a year.”

Wow. That’s life on the A-List. I don’t even think I would even own one in my lifetime.

The Floating restaurant and Fish Farm

Just across the private yachts is a floating restaurant next to a small fish farm. My friend and I never really intended to eat here so we really wanted to see the fish farm where several species of fish were kept from small to really big, reminiscent of the ones they catch at Monster Fish on cable TV. some of the fishes they have here are sea bass, moray eels, and sting rays. They also have prawns.

hvis duwant, you can pick a fish and they will cook it and serve it for lunch or dinner. I just don’t know how much. I bet it’s expensive, though.  We ended up having just a bottle of softdrink.

View from the Fish Farm
Crocodile Cave (Gua Buaya)

The Crocodile Cave (Gua Buaya) is a hole in a limestone cliff that is wide enough for speedboats to drive through. named after the crocodile-shaped rock that adorns the entrance to it, the Crocodile Cave shelters a number of bats too. I read somewhere that it’s called Crocodile Cave because there used to be crocodiles here, but I’m not sure how accurate it is.

My favorite moment in this part of the river was actually after we made it through the cave and emerged on the other side. Our boatman upped the speed of our boat again that it really felt so good to be embraced by the wind and sometimes get a little splash of water. Fuuuuun!!!!

Approaching Crocodile Cave
The Crocodile rock formation at the mouth of the cave
Brown Eagles

Even when we were just approaching the place, I could already see countless birds soaring over the mangrove trees and taking occasional plunges as they pick up little fish. There were only two speedboats carrying tourists at the time, and I was delighted that neither had been feeding these eagles. “Eagle feeding” was being advertised in the banners at the Kilim jetty, and the thought of it was upsetting me. Fortunately, it didn’t happen when we were there. We just watched as they hunted for prey like they would naturally and without human intervention. (I actually thought that they had stopped it but, later that day, I would meet a backpacker who told me that it was still going on and that the group he joined fed the eagles. Sad.) Or maybe, the other boat had already thrown food into water even before we arrived. I really wish that eagle-feeding stops because it can alter their natural diet and affect their hunting skills.

Fuglekiggeri!
Another shot of the Eagle
There was another solitary airborne predator, a bigger one, that hovered regally on the other side of the river. Our boatman said it’s the white-belly sea eagle.

The Faces and shapes of Kilim

After our encounter with the swarming eagles, we moved to the open sea where our boatman pointed three recognizable shapes from afar. The first was called “baby face” because it looked like it was, well, the face of a baby. The second was the Apache face, forming a silhouette of a native American’s facial features. The third was the shoe Island, uncannily taking the shape of a rubber shoe floating in the water.

Apache face. Kan du se det?
Shoe Island!
A massive signage affixed to a limestone wall also marks the mouth of Kilim River. After a brief photo op with it in the background, our boat turned around and headed back to the jetty.

On our way back, I caught another glimpse of an eagle soaring over the mangroves and the river. It was one of those moments where I envied our winged brothers, soaring spirits. Langkawi is a special place and to see it onboard a speedboat had been a great experience. having a top view of this paradise from dizzying heights is an opportunity that I would love to receive. Ah, how I envy the birds!

How to get to Kilim Geoforest Park: From Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia you may fly to Langkawi and take a cab to Kilim Geopark. You might also want to consider taking the overnight sleeper train from KL Sentral to Arau (10-hour travel time, RM 54). At Arau Station, take a cab to Kuala Perlis (RM 25), then board the ferry to Kuah Port in Langkawi (RM 18). Take a cab to Kilim Geopark (RM 25).
