BENCAB MUSEUM: how to get There from Baguio, entrance Fee, operating hours

Bencab museum is a personal project of Benedicto Reyes Cabrera, a Philippine national artist for visual Arts.

The museum is located in Benguet, particularly in the town of Tuba, a short drive from Baguio city center. It houses BenCab’s collection of his own masterpieces and also those of other distinguished artists and emerging contemporary artists. It aims to promote the arts, environmental conservation, and cultural and ethnological preservation of the northern mountain region, especially the Cordilleras heritage. It was officially launched and opened to the public on February 27, 2009.

Aside from the displays and exhibits, the museum also has a cafe, named after BenCab’s popular muse — Sabel. It also has its own organic farm and tiny forest.

The first time I visited, BenCab was there at cafe Sabel, but I was too shy to technique him because there were also lots of guests asking for photos and/or autographs. The team checked out again, but he was not there. maybe the third time’s a charm? I wouldn’t mind checking out again anyway.

If it’s your first time to visit, here are some valuable bits of info that you might want to know before you go.

Plus, we’ve turned down offers in Italy, Qatar, Thailand, Mexico, and Guatemala. Hus siddende job er tilgængelige over hele verden.

Click here to see the available homes and learn more about the most popular house sitting website online. trusted Housesitters is the only site we’ve ever used and we highly recommend it.

19 books I’VE recently read THAT YOU should read too

19 books I’VE recently read THAT YOU should read too

Posted: 8/16/21 | August 16th, 2021

One of the things I did a lot of this past year was read. (I mean for a while there wasn’t much to do anyway). When I finally hit the road, I read just as much. Buses, ferries, trains — they’re all perfect places to read a book. happy hour at some random bar in a random city? another great opportunity to read! give me a glass of wine and a book and I’m a happy camper.

Since it’s been a while since I last give a list of some of my favorite books, I’d thought I’d share what I’ve read this year that I really loved. (If you want regular updates, we have a monthly book club that you can join, with even more suggestions!)

1. Take more Vacations, by Scott Keyes

Travel expert Scott Keyes. of Scott’s cheap Flights. explains how to score bargain airfare and improve your trips, so this book is half practical tips and half travel philosophy. Keyes demystifies the entire process of how airfare pricing works, and his strategies for getting cheap flights will apply to you regardless of where you live.

2. Circe, by Madeline Miller

This novel follows the fictionalized life of the Greek goddess Circe. It is a well-written page-turner that spans Greek history. The author really brings Circe to life and creates a complex tale of becoming who you were always meant to be. I highly, highly, highly recommend it! I couldn’t put it down once I picked it up.

3. The Expanse, by James S. A. Corey

This hit Amazon TV show is actually based on a book series. This eight part series (with the ninth and final one coming out in November) follow humans (fractured in people living on Earth, Mar, and “The Belt”) in the near future after discovering an alien portal to systems around the universe. If you love sci-fi and are looking for a good series to pick up, pick this one up. Det er fantastisk.

4. Land of love and Drowning, by Tiphanie Yanique

Set in the us Virgin Islands and taking place through most of the 20th century, this book uses the author’s own family history as well as island history to tell a story that features a lot of magical realism. It took me a few pages to get into it, but it really picks up after the first 20-30 pages. It’s a vibrant, layered read, and I can see why the author won so many awards for it.

5. Breath, by James Nestor

Breath is about how we breathe and how we can improve the quality of our breathing. The book argues that proper breathing can literally solve pretty much all of our health problems. While I think that’s a bit of an exaggeration, there’s still a lot of good information in here on how improving your breathing can reduce allergies (something I struggle with), increase energy, and reduce sleep apnea and snoring.

6. Less, by Andrew Sean Greer

This nonfiction, Pulitzer Prize–winning book follows writer Arthur less on the eve of his fiftieth birthday. After finding out his lover is getting married to another man, he says yes to number of business trips and workshops and goes traveling the world. (So, I guess, kind of a travel book maybe?) The more I read this book, the more I fell in love with it. and the twist at the end? Wow! You never see it coming!

7. What Doesn’t kill You: A Life with Chronic Illness, by Tessa Miller

This book — part personal story, part resource for others with chronic illness — chronicles the author’s sudden battle with IBD and Crohn’s. It’s smartly written, informative, and an eye-opening look at the gaping holes and systemic failures of the us medical system. three in five Americans have some kind of chronic illness and this book goes a long way at understanding their struggies.

8. Deep Work, by Cal Newport

This book is about how to avoid distractions and produce deeper work. While repetitive in some parts (like we get it, avoid distractions), the book does have a lot of great tips on how to do “deep work” and live a less distracted life. Whether you’re looking to improve your workflow, make more time for friends and family, or deepen your hobbies, this book has lots of tips and insights that can help.

9. how I built This, by guy Raz

Guy Raz is famous for his podcast how I built This where he interviews entrepreneurs about how they built their companies. (Check out the one with the founders of Lonely Planet. It’s excellent.) Normally, I hate business books but this one was actually really interesting. following the “hero’s journey” arc, Raz compiles all the lessons he’s learned into a single book about business. It’s insightful.

10. born a Crime, by Trevor Noah

When Austin’s Snowpocalypse cut thepower, I couldn’t work. So I picked up this book by Trevor Noah about his life in South Africa and ended up reading the entire thing in one day. I found it insightful and educational to read about growing up as apartheid was ending. It gave me a lot of perspective on growing up in South Africa and a deeper appreciation for Trevor Noah himself.

11. The White Tiger, by Aravind Adiga

Netflix made a movie about this book by Aravind Adiga (which I haven’t seen). At first, I couldn’t get into this book. I didn’t like the format. Then, suddenly, a day had passed and I was almost done with it. The book grew on me! I The main character, Balram, is an antihero who revels in his self-serving ways as he works to get out of his village in India to become a powerful man.

12. Scotland beyond the Bagpipes, by Helen Ochyra

Ochyra is a UK travel writer who realized that, despite many visits to Scotland for work, she had never really seen the country. She’d only had been there for quick visits. So, supured by the loss of her monther, she hops in a car and heads off to explore Scotland in depth to get a better sense of the country. This book is funny, easy to read, and full of insights into Scotland (a place I love immensely).

13. The signature of All Things, by Elizabeth Gilbert

This tale of Alma, a woman living in the 1800s, was so captivating that I couldn’t put it down. It follows her life from birth to old age. The characters are complex, the story of finding one’s place in the world has a few good plot twists, and, obviously, it’s super well written. Jeg elskede det.

14. The Queen’s Gambit, by Walter Tevis

After falling in love with the Netflix miniseries (I watched it twice), I decided to pick up the book. It’s a quick and easy read. The show followed the book pretty closely, so if you watched the show, you know what happens. There’s not a lot of differences. But, again, if you liked it on the small screen, you’re also going to love the book.

15. The Yellow House, by Sarah Broom

This memoir traces Broom’s family history in new Orleans, far from Bourbon Street, diving into life in its poor parts and what it was like growing up Black in a city defined by race. She delves into her upbringing, and how Katerina changed not only NOLA but her and her family. It gave me a lot of perspective on the Crescent City.

16. American Kingpin, by Nick Bilton

This book is about Ross Ulbricht, the founder of the Silk Road, a dark-web site that sold drugs, organs, and weapons before being broken up by the FBI. I could not put this book down. Bilton immediately captivates you and draws you into this story of greed, murder, and delusions of grandeur. It’s fantastic story of a genius kid who uses his intellgence for evil as well as a story about the power of ego and hubris.

17. L’Appart, by David Lebovitz

Lebovitz is a well-known travel writer who writes prolifically about Paris (and I had the pleasure of meeting while I lived there). In this humorously written, insightful book, he uses his apartment renovation to look at various aspects of French life. He’s like a Parisian bill Bryson and is able to really peel back the layers of life in Paris.

18. Americanah, by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

This is the story of an immigrant who moves back to Nigeria after studying in the United States. It follows her story, as well that of her college boyfriend, shifting perspectives between them and between life in the us and in Nigeria. It was 600 pages of incredible prose and storytelling that highlights the challenges of moving to a new country and then returning home and trying to fit back in.

19. mad Travelers, by David Seminera

Mad Travelers follows perpetual nomads — people who try to be the most traveled person in the world and hit every obscure place there is (aka “mad travelers”). The book is also the tale of how one pathological liar conned some of these folks and goes into the psychology of what makes people want to travel the world forever. I enjoyed it a lot; it made me think of what drives me to travel so much.

Etik skriftligt: Saudi-Arabien

Etik skriftligt: Saudi-Arabien

Indsendt: 1/8/2020 | 8. januar 2020

Det er svært at vende detdown if you don’t have another source of income.

Moreover, social media didn’t exist when many bloggers started and we had to rely solely on our blogs and in-person relationships. Now, with so numerous platforms, so numerous people competing for gigs, so much money out there, and the feedback loop social media provides, I think people are justifying morally dubious activities in a way that didn’t happen in the past.

Yes, conventional writers bemoaned us the same way I’m bemoaning “influencers” now, but I don’t remember standing en masse on people’s rooftops in Greece, going off trail to take pictures of flowers, or hanging off ledges for the ideal shot the way I see people doing those things now. too much of today’s content is “look at me,” not “learn from me.”

So what can be done?

My guidance for people who consume travel content is to avoid people who do things that aren’t legal or ethical and don’t paint a full picture of what’s happening in a country. By glossing over thorny issues, they make it much more likely you’ll think everything is fine and increase the risk of something going wrong.

Look for those who are sharing much more than pretty photos. look for those doing things you, the consumer, can also do (not just on a paid promotional trip), because those are the ones who are going to be able to help you learn how to travel better in real life.

And, my fellow creatives, I urge you to consider the ethics of who sponsors your trip and to give your readers the most complete and accurate information. Don’t just feature glossy pictures. We get it: every place has fantastic people, every place has beauty.

But some places require much more extensive context. Some paid trips shouldn’t be taken.

Because, while special access and paid trips are fun, they aren’t as fun when the money received from them drips in the blood of the very citizens you are trying to highlight.

However, because the team and I are still restricted from traveling to a large portion of the world due to the pandemic, there is only so much we can do. There’s just a lot of information we can’t update because we’re not there, on the ground, taking notes.

So, I’m reaching out to ask for your help in looking over our guides and making sure they are as accurate as possible. We especially need help with:

For example, how much has the price of groceries gone up? how much is a dinner out? Et glas vin? What’s the new local app that finds vehicle parking deals or campervan sites or is the local version of Uber? What are some hot new attractions or new ways to save money?

Things like that are what we need your help with.

Book din rejse: Logistiske forslag og tricks
Book dit fly
Find a low-cost flight by using Skyscanner.

Safetywing (bedst for alle)

Forsikre min tur (for de over 70)

Medjet (for yderligere evakueringsdækning)

Asyut, Egypt – outstanding People, outstanding Experiences

Asyut, Egypt – outstanding People, outstanding Experiences

The 6am bus trip (budget backpackers have no choice) from Dahkla to Asyut was uneventful, we were both incredibly worn out as well as slept for 4 hours out of the 7 hour ride. I was rudely awoken by my head banging against the window over as well as over again…the roads right here aren’t precisely pothole free. I looked over as well as saw Nick with his mouth large open as well as head bobbing around also…the a lot of attractive, as well as the only, foreigners on the bus. We shown up around 1:15 as well as discovered that we had just missed the train to Aswan, our final destination. Asyut was meant to just be a linking town, however turned out we had to spend the night.

We didn’t do much of anything in Asyut however the people experiences we had were a few of the very best so far. They don’t see lots of backpackers in the City in any way as well as in fact, we were told a lot of people only see white people on the tv, so we felt like rock stars. “Hello, where you from?”, “how are you?”, “welcome”, “hello” was regularly shouted out to us as we walked along the streets, it was exhausting stating “thank you” all the time!

When we headed out for lunch we couldn’t discover the location we were trying to find (shocking!) as well as a regional had used to assist us. normally when somebody uses to assist us discover a location we’re a bit weary as they generally want something. Backpackers tend to be a bit stand-offish when it pertains to over-friendly locals.

However, we complied with him anyways, he took us ideal to the restaurant as well as shook our hands as well as walked away before we might even get out our budget to say thanks to him. When we went into the restaurant, whatever fell silent, forks were put down, conversations stopped as well as everybody relied on look at the white people entering their regional joint. It was one of those “do you feel like someone’s checking out you” moments however a moment that backpackers all love. The feeling of being somewhere “unexplored” by  others is a feeling all travellers crave.

We bought our food as well as I observed 3 young women gigling in the corner as well as speaking to every other, lastly they got up the guts to find as well as sit next to us. They were so wonderful as well as harmless, they wished to speak to us however spoke no English, so, with some hand gestures as well as the bit Arabic we knew, we discovered they were 18 years old, not married yet as well as were gå i skole.

They pulled out their cell phones as well as took photos with me, each of them battling to hold one of my hands…if only I had 3 hands! After the picture shoot, they wished to take us for ice cream. We gladly accepted as well as walked down the street, me linking arms with 2 women each time while the other walked alone (and was rather jealous).

Nick walked together with wanting he had the camera. The women ended up getting us ice cream, couldn’t believe it, we fought to treat them to the ice cream however they refused. We stated our goodbyes as well as parted ways. It was such a fantastic experience for me since normally women are extremely timid or they aren’t around town like the guy tend to be. If they are out in public, they don’t normally strike up conversations with a foreigner. It’s extremely tough for me to chat with other women as well as speaking with a guy is quite much a no-no (unless Nick is with me), so I jumped at this opportunity….wishing I understood a lot more Arabic.

We took a taxi later that night to choose dinner, when he dropped us off at our hotel, he stated (in Arabic as well as with a huge smile) that he would be paying for our fare. We were shocked beyond belief. A taxi motorist who quoted us the right cost when we got in the cab as well as then in the end told us it was free? Uhørt. Stunned by yet one more person’s generosity, we thanked him repeatedly, got out of the cab as well as headed as much as our room.

Waiting for the train in Asyut, Egypt

The next morning we took the 1:00 train to Aswan. When we shown up at the station, we saw the Canadian couple we had virtually mauled on the streets of Dahkla (Michel as well as Chisa). We called them over as well as had a a lot more typical conversation with them than the previous one. We discovered they online in Toronto, Chisa is originally from Japan as well as they are on yet one more year long trip . had the normal travel conversations (Where have you been so far? Where are you heading next? exactly how long are you gone for?) as well as then split ways…they were in 1st class (they insurance claim there were no 2nd class tickets left, however in reality, we’re just much better backpackers than them. lol)Og selvfølgelig var vi i 2. klasse.
